Q: What exactly are Moving Purpose Affirmations? 

A: Each weekly series centers around an audio file that leads you through about six yoga stretches or movements that are yoked with breath and affirmations. There is a period of pause each time an affirmation is spoken to give you a chance to repeat it aloud or in your head. In addition to the audio file, each series also includes a short tutorial video to explain the yoga poses PLUS a PDF of the affirmation, pose names and simple illustration.

Q: Can anyone do them?
A: Anyone who has taken a yoga class will be able to follow along with the audio. We've also begun adding a pose breakdown video for each series for newbies or just for refreshing alignment plus ideas to find more movement in each posture. Please know you can always skip anything that does not work for your body and pick a resting posture to repeat the affirmations and join back in when you like. The more you do these, the more you will find postures that DO work for you, and you can substitute those for those that don't work in your body.

Q: How long are they?
A: Because we value the habit of consistency, each one is around 10 minutes. We want it to be something you can easily incorporate into your morning or evening routine — or both! A little bit of stretching every single day has more benefit than stretching a long time only once a week. Meditations and affirmations work much the same way. A small amount devoted to this daily is far more beneficial than only doing the practice on occasion.

Q: What's the best way to use them?
A: We drop a new series every week, usually on Monday. The series includes an audio file, a PDF to print out or screenshot and a tutorial video that breaks down the poses. We recommend you begin with the tutorial video if you are new to yoga. Then hit the audio file right after. Use the audio file every day OR just grab your printout and go at your own pace. We recommend doing the same series every day for a week, as well as practicing copying the affirmations in your journal. Malia offers a beautiful Pray on Purpose journal, and that's where we like to copy ours! Repetition builds the neuropathways, and movement helps make it stick.
